APRA|AMCOS offers a low-cost solution for businesses that incorporate music into films of weddings and similar events where those films are made solely for the purpose of domestic viewing for their clients. This licence is offered in conjunction with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) to provide a simple one-stop licence for the separate rights in the underlying works and associated sound recordings and gives you access to a world of music for your wedding and domestic video recordings.
Normally, obtaining copyright clearances to synchronise and dub (reproduce) recorded music onto a film or video would involve contacting each of the rights owners in each of the works and recordings that you want to use. However, the AMCOS/ARIA Domestic Use Video Licence gives you a simple and cheap way of complying with your copyright obligations.
The licence covers the making of audiovisual productions made for the purpose of supply to those who appear in them and for their private domestic use only. The licences permit music that is played at the event to be captured in the production and also for the synchronisation and dubbing from commercial recordings in post production. Specific terms and restrictions are set out in the licences.
Please note that these licences do not cover the use of music in some types of audiovisual productions, including:
If you are recording music for these or similar purposes, see Music in Film and Advertisement »
Under the joint licence issued by AMCOS and ARIA, you may record an unlimited number of weddings or other similar events per year, but for each event you may only make:
