APRA|AMCOS is pleased to invite you to a complimentary event focussing on jazz composition and performance together with introductions to local organisations.
Highly sought after composer and performer Matt McMahon will be put under the spotlight to discuss the experiences, influences, methods, highlights, challenges and successes that have a shaped a distinguished career in both the Australian and international jazz scenes.
Joining Matt will be representatives from Jazzgroove and SIMA (Sydney Improvised Music Association) to give you an insight into their organisations and what they do as specialists in the jazz and improvised music arenas.

About Matt McMahon
Matt McMahon is a Sydney based pianist, keyboardist and composer. Having studied music and English literature at Sydney University and Jazz Studies at the NSW Conservatorium of Music, he has been actively performing and recording music since 1993.
He has performed/recorded with musicians and groups including Dale Barlow, Sandy Evans, Joe Tawadros, Vince Jones, Katie Noonan, Daorum, Baecastuff, Guy Strazz, Steve Hunter, Phil Slater, Jackie Orsaczky and his compositions appear on many albums. He has also performed with touring artists from the USA Bobby Previte(1999), Greg Osby (2006), Bob Hurst (2012) and Aaron Goldberg (2012) .
Matt was the winner of the 1999 National Jazz Award at the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and was the recipient of the 2005 Freedman Jazz Fellowship.
He leads groups under his own name (having recorded two critically acclaimed albums) and co-leads The Band of Five Names, a collaborative ensemble with Phil Slater and Simon Barker (with three albums). He has also recently released four duo albums with his brother Michael, Guy Strazz, Christina Leonard and Remco Keizjer.
