2011 APRA PDAs

Applications have closed for the 2011 APRA PDAs - entries for the 2013 APRA PDAs  will open late 2012.

The APRA Professional Development Awards are conducted every two years by APRA in conjunction with music organisations and institutions involved in the representation or education of Australian music writers. The Awards offer cash, travel, education and recognition to eight (8) music writers in the early stages of their careers. In 2011, awards will be given in the following categories:

  • Popular Contemporary (three (3) awards covering Pop, Rock, Blues, Folk, Hip Hop, Dance and R&B)
  • Country
  • Jazz
  • Classical
  • Film & Television
  • Indigenous

Prizes

Each award winner will receive:

  • $12,000 cash and Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch + Logic Studio courtesy of APRA|AMCOS
  • Full day of studio time, including engineer, at Studios 301
  • Distribution deal with MGM/Leading Edge (Popular Contemporary, Country, Film & TV, Indigenous winners only)
  • Digital distribution courtesy of MGM (Popular Contemporary, Country, Film & TV, Indigenous winners only)
  • Digital distribution courtesy ABC Music (Jazz and Classical Award winners only)
  • PCR300 Controller Keyboard and DR80C Condensor Microphone courtesy of Roland
  • A unit of study in the Australian Institute of Music's (AIM) Bachelor of Music Program.
  • Attendance at the Seed Workshop (for 3 x popular contemporary winners only) courtesy of The Seed – an arts grant fund
  • Attendance at the ASCAP US Film & TV Workshop (for Film & TV winner only) courtesy of ASCAP

Please Note:

In addition to the Terms & Conditions, please note that for all applications (online and postal):

  • You must select a music/award category for which you wish to apply. You may receive an Award in ONE category only.
  • You must select ONE Partner Organisation on your online application, or submit to ONE Partner Organisation by post. APRA|AMCOS will not accept nominations directly.
  • Incomplete Nomination Documents will not be accepted for consideration. If you do not include all checklisted items, your submission will be deemed incomplete.
  • Your Application must be accompanied by a CD (if submitted by post) or mp3 music files (if submitted online). Each CD must contain only three (3) works that you wish to be considered. If submitting online, you may only include three (3) mp3 files.
  • For the Popular Contemporary and Country categories lyrics must be supplied. These hard copy materials will only be returned if accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope.
  • For the Classical category, scores should be supplied. These hard copy materials will only be returned if accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope.
